Loving and Generous Father,
We praise you and give you thanks for the gifts of our faith and your abundant grace.
We thank you for the gift of your Son Jesus, in the Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith and the nourishment for our life’s journey.
This Precious Gift energizes us in the Holy Spirit as we embrace our mission to spread the gospel.
We humbly ask you to open our hearts and minds to recognize your presence in all those we encounter, so they may see your love through our compassionate care of their needs, both spiritual and temporal.
Bless in a special way our own commitment to the faithful stewardship of your gifts through our prayers, service, and generosity in support of the many good works in our church.
Bless the Catholic Ministries Appeal. Help us understand, in the words of St. Paul that in you “we live and move and have our being” as we strive to be the joyful band of missionary disciples your Son has commissioned to build your Kingdom on earth.
This we pray through your Son, Jesus, who lives with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
It is an annual appeal to benefit the ministries of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. The Catholic Ministries Appeal is an opportunity for the faithful to respond to Christ’s command “to love one another as I have loved you” (John 15: 12) by helping to fund and build ministerial programs at our church.

How is the annual appeal different from weekly contributions?

Your weekly contributions go directly to maintaining the church, paying utilities, insurance, and so much more that is necessary for the church to continue. The financial gifts to the CMA will be used to fund programs, in order for the church to grow and bring forth a future of hope.
When deciding how much your gift to the church should be, there are some questions you may want to ask yourself. How important is Saint Thomas Church to me? Do you believe we are a church truly blessed by God to bring about the good news of salvation? How much can I truly afford to sacrifice?
Pray, pray, and pray. From our weekly offerings to an appeal such as this, prayer and reflection are important. Allow your heart to guide you in making a financial gift. Saint Paul writes, “whatever you do, do from the heart” (Colossians 3: 23).
In the past year, the world faced a great challenge with the pandemic. Businesses and households had to make some changes due its economic impact. Churches, including our church, continue to feel the impact. Our Sunday collections are improving. However, at the height of the pandemic, our church was not able to celebrate public mass, this caused a dramatic decrease in our weekly revenue. Because of this, and other unforeseeable expenses, our dwindled.
Many larger Catholic churches have some type of an annual appeal to benefit the church on the diocesan level and at the local parish level. When considering the good that can come from such an appeal, now is the appropriate time to begin this journey of faith and trust.
An annual appeal at our church will reaffirm the truth that the church belongs to the people. It is your church, and you have the responsibility of caring for the church and securing a future filled with hope. An annual appeal will also present an opportunity to give back to God for the many blessings he has bestowed upon each of us.
Many find it difficult to give the prescribed ten percent of their income to the church. But such an appeal should bring one to ponder what belongs to God and how giving to the church brings one closer to God.
Annually, the Catholic Ministries Appeal will identify one or two areas in the church that will benefit from the collected funds. The funds collected with our 2021 appeal will be used to enclose the front entrance of the church, adding a gathering space and additional seating. Funds collected will also be used to rebuild our church reserve or bank savings.
75% of funds collected will be used towards church construction.
25% of funds collected will be placed in reserve.
You will receive a pledge sheet at mass. On the sheet will be some suggested gift amounts. Take home the pledge sheet and pray about it. Talk with your spouse or family how a gift to the church can benefit in so many ways. You can make a one- time gift or pledge a gift that is payable over the next ten months. An updated chart of the funds collected will be located in the church.
The “kick-off” date for the Catholic Ministries Appeal will be June 6. It will run throughout the month of June. Please place your pledge sheet and/or gifts in the collection basket at mass.
